About us

Kestrel Quest was created to bring clarity, structure and integrity to workplace learning.

We believe effective learning is not just about content or visuals. It is about how information is organised, understood and applied in real contexts. Too often, learning becomes overloaded, fragmented or difficult to use. Our work focuses on resolving those issues through thoughtful design and careful refinement.

Our approach

Our work combines strong visual design with evidence-based learning principles to create experiences that are clear, usable and built for real-world application.

Every element is considered as part of a whole, so learning works in practice, not just in theory.

We focus on:

  • structure before surface

  • flow and usability

  • reducing unnecessary cognitive load

About the founder

Kestrel Quest is led by SJ Allen, a senior instructional designer
with postgraduate qualifications in education.

SJ brings extensive experience across complex environments, including government, emergency services and regulated industries. Her work spans end-to-end learning design, from architecture through to delivery.

Her approach is grounded in:

  • a strong focus on structure and layout

  • deep understanding of how people process and apply information

  • the ability to see connections across complex content

This produces learning that is both coherent and practical, even in highly detailed or technical contexts.

How we work

Kestrel Quest operates as a small, specialist practice.

This allows us to stay close to the work and maintain a high standard across all deliverables. Where needed, we engage trusted collaborators, including specialist proofreading and design support, to ensure accuracy and consistency.

A note on quality
We place a strong emphasis on precision. From structure through to language and presentation, every element is reviewed to ensure it is accurate and fit for purpose.

Inclusive by design

Inclusion is embedded in how we work, not added later.

Our approach is shaped by human-centred design, informed by:

  • lived experience of neurodivergence

  • awareness of diverse learner needs and contexts

  • established frameworks such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and WCAG

The result is learning that works for a broader range of people without sacrificing clarity or depth.
